Physical Sciences Division Computer Science (MS): TOEFL 5.0 overall on the new TOEFL scale (tests after 21 Jan 2026) or 100 total on the legacy 0-120 scale; IELTS 7.0 overall. Scores valid 2 years before the application deadline. Waiver only for English as primary language since childhood, or 1+ full-time academic year in the last 10 years at an English-medium institution in listed countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, etc.); China is not on the list, so mainland-degree holders need a test (https://grad.uchicago.edu/admissions/apply/english-language-requirements/).

- Online application with $90 fee (or waiver); unofficial transcripts from every college attended; resume/CV; two letters of recommendation on letterhead (should emphasise technical or mathematical ability); short essay responses (no formal statement of purpose). GRE/GMAT older than five years must be retaken; programme states GRE benchmarks of 50th percentile+ verbal and 80th percentile+ quantitative. 9-course (as little as nine months) and 12-course (15-24 months) options. Visa sponsorship not available for part-time study. Tests: GRE optional (recommended, especially without CS coursework); GMAT optional; ESSAY required.
