TUM-wide minimums: TOEFL iBT 88 (Test Date Score only, MyBest not accepted; Home Edition accepted); IELTS Academic/Online overall 6.5 (One Skill Retake accepted); PTE Academic 65; Cambridge CAE or CPE grades A-C. Alternative: prior degree or secondary education with at least 50% English instruction. Programmes may set higher requirements (check FPSO). Proof must be submitted before the application deadline.
Other requirements
Two-stage aptitude assessment: Stage 1 evaluates documents (Bachelor's grades, curriculum analysis, statement of reasons/motivation letter, ~1000-word scientific essay on one of five topics); Stage 2 is a 90-minute written test in English (~20-30 questions on general, mathematical, theory-of-computation and practical foundations) for invited applicants (WS 2026/27 test date was 20 August 2026). Applicants with an undergraduate degree from China must submit an APS certificate. GRE (General) required for degrees from Bangladesh, China, India, Iran or Pakistan (Q 164, AW 4.0; institution code 7806, dept 5199). Non-German degrees need VPD via uni-assist. Documents: degree certificate, transcript, English proof, curriculum analysis, module catalogue, essay, motivation letter, CV, passport. No minimum grade published. Tests: GRE required (degree from China: Quantitative 164, Analytical Writing 4.0); ESSAY required.
