- IELTS Academic normally 7.5 overall, usually 7.0+ in each element; C2 Proficiency 200 with no element below 185; C1 Advanced 193 with no element below 185 plus other evidence; school-leaving qualifications at C1 or above. No TOEFL listed. For interview, IELTS 6.5 equivalent (no element below 6.0) is recommended at application. The English condition is set by the College making the offer. Also accepted: CPE 200.
- How grades are compared
- China (Gaokao), college-dependent: top 0.1% in province, usually with extra achievement such as Olympiads or APs (Churchill, Clare, Downing, Emmanuel, Girton, Homerton, Hughes Hall, Lucy Cavendish, Magdalene, Peterhouse, Queens', Trinity, Wolfson); at least 90% in each of 3 relevant core subjects or top 1-3% in province (Fitzwilliam, Murray Edwards, Newnham, Pembroke, Robinson, St Catharine's, St John's, Trinity Hall); Gaokao only together with A-levels/IB/5 APs at 5 (Christ's, Corpus Christi, Gonville & Caius, Jesus, King's, Selwyn, Sidney Sussex, St Edmund's) (https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/international-students/international-qualifications)
- Other requirements
- Admissions test: ESAT required for all applicants, modules Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2 and Physics (register in advance, authorised centre). Peterhouse may also ask for grade 2 in STEP II. Minimum offer A*A*A; colleges usually require A* in Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics and often A*/7 in Physics or another science; Churchill and Selwyn often make higher offers. IB 41-42 points with 776 at HL; IB Maths must be Analysis and Approaches. No written work usually. Apply via UCAS by 15 Oct 2026 (6pm UK), then complete My Cambridge Application. 4-year course (BA + MEng) is accredited; specialisation from year 3.
