ME department page: TOEFL results must be from a test taken within 18 months of the application deadline (Stanford-wide validity is two years). Stanford-wide exemptions apply (first language English; degree from a university where all instruction was in English; two or more consecutive years of full-time professional or educational experience in English in the past 10 years).

- GRE not accepted for applications received through January 2027 (do not submit or reference GRE scores). Statement of Purpose (max two pages single-spaced); MS Supplementary Information form with four short prompts (post-MS goals, motivation, an independently initiated activity, a failure or challenged belief); resume/CV; three letters of recommendation (at least one academic, two preferred); unofficial transcripts; application fee. Autumn-only admission for full-time MS (Winter/Spring starts are for HCP applicants only). China: admitted students from PRC institutions must provide CSSD verification reports (https://gradadmissions.stanford.edu/official-transcripts-degree-conferral-documents). No minimum GPA published. Applicants who have completed or enrolled in a master's in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, or an international degree equivalent to a U.S. master's, are not eligible.
