- Imperial higher requirement: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall (min 6.5 in all elements, single sitting, single-skill retakes not accepted); TOEFL iBT 100 overall (min 22 in all elements) for tests taken before 21 January 2026, or 5.0 (min 5.0 in all elements) on the new 1-6 scale for tests from that date; PTE Academic 69 (min 62 in all elements); Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 185 (min 176 in all elements); Duolingo 125 (no integrated subscore below 115); also accepted: LanguageCert Academic SELT 75 (min 70 in any element), Oxford Test of English Advanced 155 (min 145 in all components). Scores valid only if taken within 2 years of course start. Exemptions listed on the English language exemption page (transnational joint degrees with exempted countries do not count).
- How grades are compared
- China: Imperial does not accept the Chinese National College Entrance Exam (gaokao) for entry to any of its degrees; applicants may be considered via an accepted foundation programme or an accepted qualification at an external provider (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/international-students/information-by-region/east-asia/). Accepted foundations for this course: UCL UPCSE (80% overall, 80% Mathematics, 80% Chemistry or Physics, Grade 2 in STEP 2 or STEP 3 may also be required) or Warwick IFP Science and Engineering (80% overall with 80% in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, or one of the listed Mathematics/Statistics/Further Mathematics module combinations) (course page).
- Other requirements
- TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission) required for all who apply on or before the last TMUA booking deadline; later applicants who cannot sit it will typically get offers requiring at least one STEP paper. MAT no longer used. 2027-entry TMUA windows 12-16 October 2026 or 4-8 January 2027 (in China, Hong Kong and Macau: 15-16 October 2026 or 8 January 2027); window 2 booking 26 October to 21 December 2026. Interviews not part of the regular process (only in special circumstances). A-level minimum entry standard A*A*A - A*A*AA (A* Mathematics, A* Further Mathematics, A in another subject); typical offer A*A*A (three A-levels) or A*A*AA (four A-levels). General Studies and Critical Thinking not accepted; science practical endorsement pass required. IB minimum 39 points with 7 in HL Mathematics and 6 in another HL subject (Analysis and Approaches preferred); typical IB offer 40. AP minimum 5,5,5,5,5 including Calculus BC and at least one of Computer Science, Statistics, Physics C (Mechanics) or Physics C (E&M), or 5,5,5 with the same subjects plus an acceptable school leaving qualification and SAT 1480 or ACT 33. Gaokao not accepted. UCAS code G100 (institution I50); UCAS personal statement required; ATAS not required. 3-year course. Applications to places 14:1 (2025).
