Entry requirements

Accepted English tests

IELTS Academic 7.5 with min 7.0 per component (IELTS General/Life Skills/IELTS Online not accepted); TOEFL iBT 110 with Listening 22, Reading 24, Speaking 25, Writing 24 - only TOEFL tests taken up to and including 20 Jan 2026 are accepted; C1 Advanced 191 and C2 Proficiency 191, min 185 per component; PTE Academic 76 with min 66 in each skill; Oxford Test of English (Advanced) 165, min 155 per component; also IB English B HL 7 and others. Possible exemption if IB taught in English or educated full-time in English for the two most recent years. Proof needed by 31 July of the offer year. Also accepted: CPE 191; Oxford Test of English Advanced 165.

How grades are compared

China: the Chinese Senior High School Diploma and the Gaokao are both listed as 'Not accepted'; applicants need A-levels, IB or another accepted qualification (https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/admissions-requirements/international-qualifications)

Other requirements

Admissions test: ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test) required, modules Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2 and Physics; test dates 12-16 Oct 2026, booking window 20 Jul - 28 Sep 2026 (already closed as of 2026-10-04). Standard offer A*A*A to include Mathematics and Physics, with the A*s in Mathematics, Physics or Further Mathematics (applicants predicted A*AA considered only with extenuating circumstances; offer still A*A*A). IB: 40 points (including core) with 776 at HL, with 7s in HL Mathematics and Physics. Advanced Highers: AA/AAB. No written work. Apply via UCAS by 6pm (BST) 15 October. 4-year MEng. Chinese Gaokao / Senior High School Diploma not accepted. Tests: INTERVIEW required (shortlisted candidates only; online, December).
