Level 1 equivalents on the English requirements page: TOEFL iBT 81 (W19, S19, R16, L16); PTE Academic 64 (60 in each band); Cambridge C1 Advanced 169 overall (W170, S179, R163, L163); LanguageCert Academic 67; Michigan English Test 58. Tests must be taken in one sitting at a test centre (no online/at-home versions), within 24 months of course start, from a single test report, and in the country of citizenship, last education or residence; students located in China may also sit tests in Hong Kong SAR or Macao. An approved A/AS Level English subject at grade C or above also meets the English requirement. English-speaking-background exemption applies only to listed English-speaking countries (China not listed). Melbourne offers no stand-alone undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering; engineering is studied through an engineering systems major in the Bachelor of Science (Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computing and Software, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Digital Infrastructure Engineering Systems) leading to the 2-year Master of Engineering for professional accreditation (https://eng.unimelb.edu.au/students/preeng-it/science-pathway). Entry requirements are those of the Bachelor of Science: International entry score 2027 (guide only), GCE A Levels: BBB (also BBB for 2025 and 2026); minimum of three A Levels; grade C or above in prerequisite subjects. Approved A/AS English subjects: General Paper, General Studies, English Language and Literature, English Literature, English Language. IB Diploma entry score 2027 (guide only): 31, with minimum grade 4 in English or English B (SL/HL), grade 4 in Maths AI HL, AA SL or AA HL, and grade 4 in one of Biology, Chemistry or Physics (HL or SL). International ATAR-equivalent entry score 2027: 85.00 (guide only). Gaokao: the University of Melbourne does not currently accept Gaokao results for direct entry; students in standard Chinese government high schools usually go via Trinity College Foundation Studies (TCFS); A Levels, IB or US High School Diploma may give direct entry (https://study.unimelb.edu.au/connect-with-us/international/china).
