- How grades are compared
- China: Imperial does not accept the Chinese National College Entrance Exam (gaokao) for entry to any of its degrees; applicants may be considered via an accepted foundation programme or an accepted qualification at an external provider (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/international-students/information-by-region/east-asia/). Department minimums for accepted foundations: UCL UPCSE 80% overall, 80% Mathematics, 80% Physics; Warwick IFP Science and Engineering (Engineering pathway) 80% overall, 80% Mathematics, 80% Physics (course page).

- ESAT (Engineering and Science Admissions Test) mandatory, modules Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2 and Physics; 2027-entry windows 12-16 October 2026 or 4-8 January 2027 (in China, Hong Kong and Macau: 12-13 October 2026 or 6 January 2027). Online interview of 25-30 minutes with academic staff (Wednesday afternoons, November to March; maths, physics, engineering thinking, personal statement). A-level minimum entry standard A*A*A or A*AAA (A* Mathematics; A*/A Physics; A in third/fourth subject); typical offer A*A*A* (three A-levels) or A*A*AA (four A-levels). General Studies and Critical Thinking not accepted; science practical endorsement pass required. IB minimum 40 points with 6 in HL Mathematics and 6 in HL Physics; typical IB offer 40 points with 7 in HL Mathematics and 7 in HL Physics. AP minimum 5,5,5,5,5 including Calculus BC and Physics C (Mechanics), or 5,5,5 including those plus an acceptable school leaving qualification and SAT 1480 or ACT 33. Gaokao not accepted.
