Imperial standard requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (min 6.0 in all elements; single-skill retakes not accepted); TOEFL iBT 92 overall (min 20 in all elements), or 4.5 in all elements on the scale used from 21 January 2026; PTE Academic 62 (min 56 in all elements); Cambridge C1 Advanced 176 (min 169 in all elements); Duolingo 115 (no integrated subscore below 105). Scores valid within 2 years of course start.
How grades are compared
China: Imperial does not accept the Chinese National College Entrance Exam (gaokao) for entry to any of its degrees; applicants may be considered via an accepted foundation programme or an accepted qualification at an external provider (https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/international-students/information-by-region/east-asia/). Accepted foundations for this course: UCL UPCSE (80% overall, 80% Mathematics, 80% Biology, Chemistry or Physics) or Warwick IFP Science and Engineering (80% overall, 80% in each of the three technical modules; Biology and Chemistry route not accepted) (course page).
Other requirements
TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission) mandatory; 2027-entry windows 12-16 October 2026 or 4-8 January 2027 (in China, Hong Kong and Macau: 15-16 October 2026 or 8 January 2027). Interviews not standard but may be offered at the admissions tutors' discretion. A-level minimum entry standard A*A*A - A*AAA (A* in Mathematics, A*A in two further subjects or AAA in three further subjects); typical offer A*A*A (three A-levels) or A*A*AA (four A-levels). Not accepted: ICT, Business Studies, General Studies, Critical Thinking; science practical endorsement pass required. IB minimum 41 points with 7 in HL Mathematics and 7 in another relevant HL subject; typical IB offer 42. AP minimum 5,5,5,5,5 including Calculus BC, or 5,5,5 including Calculus BC plus an acceptable school leaving qualification and SAT 1480 or ACT 33. Gaokao not accepted. UCAS code G400 (institution I50); UCAS personal statement required. 3-year course.
