- International applicants whose native language is not English: IELTS Academic minimum 7.0 (IELTS preferred by the MEng programme; General Training not accepted), TOEFL iBT minimum 100 (or 5.0 for tests on the 2026 TOEFL scale), Duolingo English Test minimum 135; scores less than 2 years old. MechE FAQ: tests waived for students graduating from a US school and for citizens of India; MIT OGE programme page says the department does not offer ELP waivers (conflict). All incoming students take the Institute writing ability test before matriculation.

- Apply through the MIT Mechanical Engineering graduate application and specify Master of Engineering in Advanced Manufacturing and Design; supplemental essays required in addition to the Statement of Objectives. Minimum three letters of recommendation, transcripts (unofficial at application, official on admission), application fee USD 90. GRE not required. Optional electronic portfolio of design or manufacturing projects. 12-month programme combining group-based graduate subjects with a project-based thesis at a partner company. Holders of the MITx MicroMasters in Principles of Manufacturing may apply and receive credit (shorter on-campus period). No minimum GPA published.
