Tests valid if taken no more than two years before enrolment. Exempt: nationals of majority English-speaking countries or 12 months' education in such a country.

- China: successful completion of two years of a Bachelor's degree at a Chinese university recognised by UCL, with a weighted average mark of 90%, considered as an alternative to A-levels or the IB; study must contain subjects relevant to the programme (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/study/prospective-students/undergraduate/courses/mechanical-engineering-beng)

- A-level standard offer A*AA (Mathematics and Physics required, A* in one of them); contextual offer A*AB. IB Diploma 39 points with 19 in three HL subjects incl. 7 and 6 in Mathematics and Physics, no HL below 5 (contextual 38 / 18 HL). Admissions test: TARA (Test of Academic Reasoning for Admissions, University Admissions Tests UK) required for the 2027 cycle, fee applies. Gaokao not listed as accepted; Chinese route is two years at a recognised Chinese university with 90% weighted average, or UCL's Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate. Apply via UCAS (code H300); deferral possible; offer holders invited to department visit or virtual offer-holder day.
