Accepted English tests: Level C1 proof required by the application deadline. IELTS Academic (incl. IELTS Online) 7.0 overall with min. 6.0 in each section; TOEFL iBT (incl. Home Edition) 100 for tests taken before 21 Jan 2026, 5.0 on the new scale for tests taken after 21 Jan 2026; C1 Advanced Grade B (193); C2 Proficiency Grade C (200). TOEFL/IELTS/CAE max. 2 years old; CPE and CAE Grade A max. 5 years old. Exemption: Bachelor's programme taught entirely in English, officially confirmed by the university. Also accepted: CPE 200.
Other requirements: GRE General Test required for applicants whose Bachelor's degree is not from an EU/EFTA member state or the UK (so required for Chinese degrees); it cannot be replaced by a GRE Subject Test or GMAT; not waived for joint/double degrees (e.g. China-Italy, China-France 2+2); results must reach ETH by the deadline (ETS code 3331). No minimum GRE score published. Two recommendation letters (professors, tutors, managers or supervisors); motivation letter of about one A4 page. Programme aimed at Bachelor's holders in engineering or natural sciences. Curriculum will be redesigned from autumn 2028; autumn 2027 entrants must plan studies with the study administration. ESOP scholarship applicants: top 10% of Bachelor's cohort. Bachelor's degree from a University of Applied Sciences not eligible.
